Derek’s first job after university was as a lawyer working with inmates on Death Row in America. In his opinion, there was no better grounding for a career in Television.
Starting as a teaboy on The Time… The Place, Derek slowly crawled his way up the greasy pole of TV production, with stints at Planet 24, Hat Trick, LWT & Endemol. Working on talk shows, documentaries, panel shows, hidden camera shows and was even present at the birth of reality TV.
As a freelance Series and Exec Producer, Derek gained a reputation as the go-to producer to develop and launch new shows including Would I Lie To You, Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe, John Bishop’s Britain, Tool Academy & Frankie Boyle’s Tramadol Nights.
Derek has held senior industry roles including Head of Objective Scotland, Creative Director at BBC Entertainment and Lime Pictures Head of Non-Scripted and Executive Vice President. He has worked in both the UK and US markets, winning an Emmy in 2016 for the launch of his dating show, The Singles Project for Bravo.
Daniel was a pizza delivery team leader, crèche supervisor, white van man and chugger before stumbling into telly via a contestant appearance on Your Face or Mine.
He became Terry Wogan's warm up man before being snapped up by Chris Evans for his UMTV development team. His first commission was 18 Stone of Idiot which he devised with Evans and Johnny Vegas.
Successful stints in development teams at BBC Entertainment, RDF Media and Ant and Dec's Gallowgate followed before he jumped ship to production.
Over the next 5 years Daniel rose to become the UK's leading games producer, devising memorable challenges for I'm a Celeb and providing format busting tasks for 8 series of Big Brother, where he created and voiced the infamous Tree of Temptation.
Daniel spent the last 6 years at various NBCUniversal labels, where he held the roles of Head of Development and Head of Entertainment, securing commissions on all major networks.
